Visioning the Future: Artistic Doctorates in Ireland

Jools Gilson Dancing About Architecture

VISIONING THE FUTURE (http://www.artisticdoctorateresources.com) was a Teaching and Learning research project focused on the Artistic Doctorate in Ireland in the Performing Arts (Dance, Music, and Theatre) and Film / Screen Media. The project asked how and what we can learn from previous practice and research into the pedagogies and the potential of the Artistic Doctorate, and how this relates to the unique ecology of Ireland. The work consulted widely, hosted an international seminar series, and engaged with staff and students in one-to-one conversations.

Artistic Doctorate Resources is a major output of our research. It is an open online tool for PhD students, supervisors, examiners and institutions involved in Artistic Research PhDs in Performing Arts and Film / Screen Media. Mixing pedagogy, policy, propositions for best practice and short reflective exercises, Artistic Doctorate Resources aims to support staff and students navigating the doctoral process in creative fields. Head over to the Resource to get started.

Visioning the Future was funded for twelve months in 2020 by the National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education, part of the Irish HEA (Higher Education Authority). Jools Gilson was the Principal Investigator and Inês Bento Coelho was the Postdoctoral Researcher.
