Knitters

The Knitting Map was knitted every day during 2005 by a rolling community of people from Cork as well as visitors to the city during Cork’s year as European Capital of Culture. The majority of these were working class, older women from Cork City. A wooden amphitheatre was installed in the crypt of St. Luke’s Church on the city’s northside, and twenty knitting stations could hold a maximum of twenty people knitting at one time. Computer screens indicated the stitch and yarn colour for the day.
